Special thanks to the kind staff at Juravinski for the care provided for Gino. He is predeceased by his father Giovanni, his sister Pasqualina, grandparents, several aunts and uncles. He is survived by his brothers Frank and David and his mother Margherita, sister-in-law Raffaela, nephew Jacob (wife Ashley), niece Erica, as well as many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
Gino was a dedicated blue collar worker spending much of his working career at the Number 2 Rod Mill, retiring from Stelco Steel over 10 years ago. He was an avid reader, a big sports fan (Green Bay “Packer Fats” was one of his nicknames) and trivia buff…always ready to debate with his inexhaustible plethora of information on many subjects. While he kept mostly to himself, his large size was equally matched by his large warm heart. Despite struggles during much of his life, he fought the good fight of faith. Gino was a kind, witty and compassionate soul and while he will be missed by those close to him, we take comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering and is resting in the arms of our Lord.
Visitation at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton is on Sunday, September 13th, 2026, from 3-7 p.m., with a Rosary prayed at 6 p.m. A Catholic service will be celebrated at the Markey-Dermody chapel on Monday, September 14th at 11 a.m. Interment is to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery, 681 Mud Street East, Hamilton. A luncheon will be held afterwards at St. Naum of Ohrid Church Hall, 1150 Stone Church Road East, Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, donations to any children’s charity, like Canadian Food for Children or Make-A-Wish, would be appreciated.
