Born on 6 February 1942 in Daisyfield, Zimbabwe, Pastor Mhlanga was the beloved son of James Mhlanga and Jessie Ncube. He is survived by his devoted wife, Alice Mhlanga, and his children: Sikhulekile Dorcas Danisa, Sinikiwe Mhlanga, Zanele Mhlanga, Bongani Mfanekaya Mhlanga, Zibusiso Melusi Mhlanga, Sandisiwe Madikane, and Bathabile Gelanyana Nkiwane. He is also survived by his sons-in-law, Gladstone Danisa and Dumiso Nkiwane, his daughter-in-law, Mandisa Zanele Mhlanga, and his twenty grandchildren who deeply cherished him.
Pastor Mhlanga was predeceased by his parents and three brothers. He leaves behind two sisters, Christine Mudzana and Elizabeth Mpofu Zhangazha, who will hold his memory close.
He received his early education at Mcetywa, Usher, and Mazoe, completing his O’ Levels before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Solusi University in Zimbabwe, a Master’s in Theology from Helderberg College in South Africa, and later a Diploma in Social Work from CDI College in Canada.
Pastor Mhlanga began his career at Kapane Primary School, where he met his lifelong companion, Alice. He went on to serve faithfully in the Seventh-day Adventist Church for many years, holding various pastoral and leadership roles. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he served as a pastor, Bible teacher, and boarding master at Lower Gweru Mission, where he affectionately became known as Qhapela. His journey later included service at Chibuku Breweries, Anderson Secondary School, Goosen Auto Electrics, and Shred-It, where he shared his dedication, discipline, and gentle spirit.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 26 November 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Hamilton Mountain Seventh-day Adventist Church, 284 Concession Street, Hamilton, Ontario with Burial to follow at Mount Hamilton Cemetery, 260 Rymal Road E.
Pastor Mhlanga ran his race with faith and his life of steadfast devotion to God leaves a legacy that will continue to bless the people he touched. May his soul rest in the sure hope of the resurrection.
