It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Graham Jeffrey Young, who passed away peacefully on Monday, June 22, 2026, at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in Burlington, following a courageous battle with illness. He was 76 years old. His beloved wife and soulmate, Jutta, was by his side.
Graham was the devoted husband of Jutta, who will forever cherish his love and deeply miss his presence. He was a dear and loving brother to Stephen (Chris), William (Beth), Kathy (Rick), Barb (Rob), and Nancy (Todd). Graham was predeceased by his parents, William and Shirley Young, and by his first wife, Karen. He will also be fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, colleagues, and fellow musicians.
Music was the defining passion of Graham’s life. A gifted musician with an extraordinary depth of musical knowledge, he enjoyed a distinguished career as a principal trumpet player spanning more than six decades. He began playing the trumpet at the age of 12 and, by 17, had already formed his own brass band. Throughout his life, music brought him immense joy and purpose, and his years with the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra were especially meaningful to him.
Verdi’s Aida held a special place in his heart. The stirring opening trumpet solo of The Grand March reflected the spirit with which Graham approached life, with confidence, elegance, and passion. Beyond his musical talents, Graham was known for his impeccable style, always taking pride in his well-tailored appearance and keen sense of fashion.
Those who knew and loved Graham will remember not only his remarkable musicianship, but also his warmth, dedication, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to share in his life. May the memories of his music, laughter, and friendship bring comfort and peace to all who mourn his passing.
In keeping with Graham’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Luke’s Anglican Church, 1382 Ontario Street, Burlington, on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with interment to follow at Woodland Cemetery, Spring Gardens Road, Burlington.
A Celebration of Graham’s extraordinary life will be held at The 447 Wing, 3210 Homestead Drive, Mount Hope, on Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Held near what would have been his 77th birthday, this gathering will provide family and friends with an opportunity to come together, share memories, and honour a life so well lived.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to South Ontario Lyric Opera or a charity of your choice would be sincerely appreciated.
