Henry Joseph Merling

With broken hearts we announce Henry's passing on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at the Juravinski Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Henry leaves behind his beloved wife Wendy and cherished daughter Katy and joins his precious son Joey (2008) in a joyous reunion in heaven. Henry will be dearly missed by his mother and father-in-law, Isabel and Wes Taylor, his brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Lynda, Cheryl and Ross, and his nieces and nephews Christy (Trevor, Jaxson & Taylor), Jason (Chantelle, Alexis) and Lianne. He also leaves family in Germany, and a multitude of friends. Henry served on City and Regional Councils from 1972 to 1997, and continued to work tirelessly in the community until his passing. Special thanks to the nurses and staff on B3 at Juravinski Hospital for their outstanding care and compassion, especially nurses Jessica and Susan. At Henry's request there will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Henry's life will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., at Carmen's Banquet Centre, 1520 Stone Church Road East (905) 387-9492. In lieu of flowers, donations to Great Lakes Christian High School or the Joey Merling Memorial Award at GLCHS, (4875 King Street, Beamsville, Ontario L0R 1B6) would be appreciated by the family.
