A true ‘north-ender’, Howard attended Hughson Street Baptist Church where he came to know Christ and was baptised at the age of 16. Life decisions were shaped by men and women who discipled him as a young man.
Howard prepared to serve in the Air Force but the war ended before he could be called overseas. He then enlisted with Sudan Interior Mission (now SIM) and was assigned to Nigeria, West Africa where he and his life partner Georgina served in Bible teaching and medical care.
After returning to Canada, Howard worked at Bible Club Union and continued to be an avid student and mentor of the Scriptures, engaging in mission and volunteer work, most notably through his faithful service at Elliott Heights Baptist Church and Gospel Recordings.
Elim Lodge was a particularly meaningful setting where Howard’s family, both as a child and as a father, spent many memorable holidays. His love of peaceful fishing, unless there was a catch to be claimed(!), was encouraged by family and friends alike as they shared and compared fish stories and made sure that he was able to enjoy this pastime up through October of 2020!
Howard’s long life was characterized by gentleness, grace, humour, humility and kindness toward all who knew him, reflecting his love for his Saviour, Jesus Christ, with whom he will eternally live, along with Georgina, the love of his life and best friend for over 60 years as well as their eldest son, Wayne.
He loved his family and sacrificed much to allow each one to succeed in life. He is survived by his younger brother and fishing buddy, Bill Bryce, and will be remembered and emulated by his living sons and daughter and their families: Alan, with granddaughter Jennifer and great-granddaughter Emma; Gregg (Patti) with grandkids Stephen, Tim, Abbie and Ethan; and Marlene (Steven) Gillespie, with granddaughter Jessica (Joe) and great-grandson Jonah, and grandson Nathan (Shelby) … and two more great-grandbuns in the oven!
We acknowledge and are thankful for the care that Aberdeen Gardens provided for ‘Papa’ in the last years and days of his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Elim Lodge Ministries.
Family & friends are invited to attend the service via Live Stream or playback on Monday, January 18th by using the following link;
