It is with broken hearts we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Mother, Nonna and Bisnonna at the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at the age of 89. She was surrounded by the strength and love of her family.
It brings us immense joy knowing that she is finally reunited with her husband Arturo and her son Antonio ‘Tony’.
She will be deeply missed by her loving children, daughter in law Assunta Di Croce, daughter Bruna (Gino) Ferrara, son Victor (Elda) Di Croce, daughter Luciana (Douglas) Hannivan, daughter Pia Papaloni, daughter Lina (Nick) Ditlof and daughter Silvana (Frank) De Luca.
Proud Nonna of 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and 2 twin boys on the way.
Beloved daughter to the late Giuseppe and Francesca Polisini and daughter in law of the late Antonio and Cesira Di Croce. Loving sister to the late Maria (late Benedito), Gabriele (late Gina), Dora (late Leo), Luigi (Carmela), Santina (late Marino), Valentino (Caterina) and beloved sister in law of the late Fiorindo (late Sofia), the late Giosafato (late Ida), the late Renato (late Adelina), Elisa (late Giuseppe), Maria (late Lorenzo), and Italia (late Carmino). She will always be remembered by her many nieces, nephews cousins and extended family and friends in Brazil, Italy and Canada.
Iolanda was born in Teramo Abruzzo, Italy and at the age of 16 her and her family made the difficult choice to leave their home and move to Brazil where she later married her beloved husband and together, started their family. In Brazil, mom and dad worked hard in the coffee fields and even harder raising their 7 children. Eventually, they made the decision to immigrate to Canada and make a home in Hamilton. Our mom was always a joy to be around, emulating happiness and comfort whenever anyone would visit. She enjoyed spending time with her family and the occasional Bingo game with friends. We will miss her immensely and treasure our time together.
Visitation will be held at Markey Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street E., Hamilton, on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 5 - 9 PM. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, (Barton Street, Hamilton) on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery, Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Iolanda’s memory may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of your choice.
