Heaven has gained another angel. After a courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 60, Jim passed away peacefully at home Sunday June 7, surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his devoted wife Jane (Mitton) of 36 years and his children Jason (Beccy), Jennifer and Julie. Proud grandpa to Reagan and Logan and beloved brother to Terry, George (Pam), Kathy, Susie, and Tom (Ann). Cherished son-in-law to Eleanor Mitton (father-in-law Russell deceased). Brother-in-law to Brian (Katherine), Tom, Sandra, Rob, and Sharon (Cosmo). Predeceased by his parents William and Anne, brother Bill and brother-in-law Terry Benger. He will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Jim was a long-time employee of 40 years at Stelco (US Steel) and a well-respected coach of hockey, baseball and lacrosse. He was an avid participant in all sports, and enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and singing karaoke at Aces. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff at Hamilton General Hospital and Juravinski Hospital & Cancer Centre, as well as the nursing staff and PSWs for all their support and care at home. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Jim’s honour to the Juravinski Hospital & Cancer Centre or CAP (Cancer Assistance Program). Cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at CRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Ave. E., on Wednesday, June 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Linden Park Community Church, 484 East 16th St., on Thursday, June 11th at 11am.
Jimbo, you always had a smile on your face, a story to tell and a song in your heart. Your song will play on in our hearts forever.
