January 28, 1934 – September 4, 2017
On September 4, Jean peacefully passed from this life, and has been reunited with her husband Lionel (Sonny, 1980), daughter Sandra Steel (2009), and her dog Sparky. Jean leaves behind and will be lovingly remembered by her son John, daughter-in-law Jamie, and son-in-law Peter Steel (Sandra). Jean was a proud and loving Grandma to John Steel, Zachary Strong, Katie Steel-Thomas (Cory) and Jacob Strong. She will also be missed by her cousin, Grace Smith (Gord), whose friendship Jean treasured through her entire life. A memorial service was held at Marlatt Funeral Home and internment at White Chapel Cemetery has taken place. Jean was in hospital for almost 8 weeks, after falling and breaking her hip. Following surgery, she suffered several medical complications, from which she was unable to recover. Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks and gratitude to all of the people who assisted Jean after her injury, beginning with the EMS Personnel who responded to her home to assist her and transport her to Juravinski Hospital. We also wish to thank the Staff in Emergency, Wards F4 (Surgical), E2 (Orthopaedic) and the Palliative Care Team at Juravinski Hospital for their kind, considerate and professional care of our Mother and Grandmother, until her transfer to St. Peter’s Hospital. We extend the same thanks and gratitude to the Staff of Ward 3 West at St. Peter’s Hospital for their kindness, compassion and professional care during Jean’s short stay in Palliative Care. The Staff at both hospitals not only took Jean’s needs and comfort into account, but also provided support to our family during her stay. Jean never wanted to move from our family’s home, until it was absolutely necessary. Over the years, many of our extended family members and Jean’s friends enabled her to fulfil her wish. Special thanks to Peter, Arthur and Norma, Sal, Terry and Bert, who provided so much assistance and friendship to Jean. Should you wish to honour Jean with a memorial donation, please consider a donation to the Hamilton-Burlington SPCA or the St. Peter’s Hospital Foundation.
