VISOCCHI, Mario Gerardo “Jerry” It is with great sadness we announce Jerry’s passing, surrounded by his beloved family, after a prolonged battle with Congestive Heart Failure at St. Peter’s Hospital Maplewood on February 13, 2015 in his 83rd year. Dear husband for 57 years of Teresa, most treasured father of Gina Lippa Fazari (Joseph), Lucia, and Mary Ann. Dearest and most beloved grandfather of Angelie, Joseph and Santina. Brother to Tony Visocchi and loved uncle of Kirston Visocchi, Matthew D’Onofrio (Brooke), and Tami D’Onofrio. Great uncle of Anthony and Regan. Jerry joins his deceased parents Francesco and Rosalina Visocchi, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins who have gone before him. Never to be forgotten by his remaining aunt Elvira Visocchi and his cousins in Italy: Pompeo Caira, Alfredo Caira, Vincenzina Fallena, Lucio Visocchi, Marcello Visocchi, Maria Pescosolido. Also, sadly missed by his cousins residing in Canada, Ralph Spinelli, Carmella Andreozzi (Larry), Asunta Lieghio (Dario), and Carmella Franchi (Gerard) in America. Jerry was born August 11, 1932 in the town of Atina Frosinone, Italy. After the war, having completed required military service and university in Italy, he arrived in Canada in 1954 settling in Windsor, Ontario. There he started working in the auto repair industry. In 1958, Jerry married Teresa D’Onofrio. In 1962, Jerry moved to Hamilton where he worked for his beloved mentor Frank Mercanti until 1969 when he purchased Glanford Autobody Ltd. which he operated for 35 years. Jerry was committed to many community organizations including Annunciation of Our Lord, Knights of Columbus Council 5860, the Rotary Club of Hamilton Mountain, Hamilton Right to Life, the Good Shepherd Harvest Dinner, The Bishop’s Ball and the St. Joseph Foundation. Through his tireless efforts, services and goods were made available to those in need, bursaries were created, and much money was raised in the name of local Hamilton causes to make our community a better place to live. Jerry received several awards recognizing his efforts including a Diocesan Medal of Honor in 1996 and the Rotary Club Paul Harris Award for exemplary service. During the last several years, Jerry would be found selling tickets and patron advertising for events such as the Bishops Charity Dinner Dance from his hospital bed. His dedication to service is indeed an inspiration to all. His many friends, colleagues in faith and charity, will sadly miss his contributions. Jerry loved this country and always claimed to all “I am a Canadian and I kiss the ground I walk on here!” We wish to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at St. Peters Hospital for their exemplary and compassionate care. Special thanks to Doctor Bev, Ashley, Cindy, Donna, Collette, and Nola, just to mention a few. Your over the top kindness and treatment of our father will never be forgotten and he was endlessly grateful, singing your praises every day.
