We are grateful that her battle with Alzheimer’s is over and she is once again at peace; however, we will forever miss the “old” feisty Joan that we all love. Joan passed away peacefully with her family by her side. She will be sadly missed by her loving and most devoted husband, Jim, of 65 years, her daughters, Carol (Doug pre-deceased), Lynn (Don), and Susan (Paul), 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Joan was always about family. She would organize get-togethers for every birthday, anniversary and holiday to celebrate and have fun. There was always a sung “happy birthday” wish over the phone when ‘in person’ was not an option. She was so very proud of all her grandchildren and was always there to babysit or spend one on one time with them.
Joan was a devout Anglican and her and Jim were members of St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Hamilton and then the Church of the Nativity, where they continued to be active members.
Joan and Jim’s life together was a true love story and an inspiration to all. They were inseparable - from working at the same grocery store to volunteering at Theatre Aquarius, square dancing with friends, delivering weekly flyers and assisting at various church services and events.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society would be greatly appreciated.
