

John Dziurka was born in Windsor, Ontario and in his 96th year, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Macassa Lodge in Hamilton, Ontario. He is survived by his beloved wife Czeslawa (Cecilia) Dziurka of 69 years, also a resident of Macassa Lodge, his daughters Diane (Chester Gregorasz) and Christine (Dr. James Bonta). He was a dear “Dziadzia” to his grandchildren Carolyn Bonta (Michael Johnson), Dr. Mark Bonta (Jessica Smith) and Michael Gregorasz. As well he is survived by his cousin Christine Fox-Siegle in Windsor, Ontario as well as many nieces and nephews in Poland. He was predeceased by his parents Pawel and Karolina Dziurka, son Henry and his brothers and sisters. After the age of five, John grew up in Poland but returned to Canada in 1948 with his wife and daughter Diane. For a few years he worked as a skilled master tailor and then became an employee of Stelco Canada until his retirement. For the past four and a half years John resided at Macassa Lodge where staff and caregivers not only treated him as family but also provided him with very compassionate care. He was known as “Poppa John” by many of the staff. Special thanks to Phyllis Kokoski, RN and Danuta Mazur, RN of Macassa Lodge. Friends may call at TRUSCOTT, BROWN & DWYER FUNERAL CHAPEL (1309 King Street East, Hamilton – across from Gage Park at the delta) on Sunday, January 27 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with prayers at 3pm. The funeral mass will be held on Monday, January 28 at 10 am at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, 8 St. Ann Street (at Barton), Hamilton with entombment to follow in the Our Lady Of Victory Mausoleum of Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Macassa Lodge, Resident Program Fund, 701 Upper Sherman Avenue, Hamilton, Ontario, L8V 3M7 or the charity of choice.
