Josip Matesic

Peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Juravinski Hospital on February 1, 2015 in his 80th year. Beloved husband of Maria (nee Zokvic) for 57 years. Loving father of Barbara Gojmerac (Ivan) and Zorica McEniry (Louis). Cherished Deda of Dannielle (James), Christine (Jon), Olivia, Madelaine and great-grandfather of Oliver. Dear brother of Drago (Lubjica) and Zlatko. Predeceased by his brothers Miha, Janko, Stjepan and sisters Bara, Dragica and Vika. Survived by his brothers-in-law Tomo (Maria), Josip, and sister-in-law Barica (Filip). Joe will be sadly missed by other family and friends in Canada, Croatia and the United States. He was a retired employee of Dofasco with 24 years of service. Special thanks to the staff of St. Joseph’s, Hamilton General and Juravinski Hospitals for their compassionate care. Visitation at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. with Vigil Prayers at 7:15 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Church, 1883 King Street East, on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. Entombment Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery. If desired, donations in Joe’s memory may be made to Karitas, Holy Cross Church or the Juravinski Cancer Centre.
