Kate was predeceased by her husband, Bill in September 2024, and leaves behind the broken hearts of her children Byron (Nicole), Charlotte (Dave) and Stuart (Leigh Ann). She was a loving and caring grandmother to Jaxson, Owen, Rachel, Mikayla, Nathan and Ella and an honorary Grandma, loving called “Grandma Kate” to Dylan (Siera), Austin, Phoenix, and Ryan. Also loving referred to by many friends and extended family as “Mama Kemp”
Kate was born and raised in Hamilton and was the only child of Stuart and Enid Morton. Kate and Bill were married in August of 1965 in Hamiton where they enjoyed a good life with many happy memories with family and good friends especially at Boshkung Lake, and the Kemp farm.
Kate was a force to be reckoned with, she was strong, intelligent and passionate about everything she did. She graduated in 1968 and started her nursing career off in the ICU at the Hamilton General, she then began working for Mohawk College in various roles, teacher, Program Manager and retiring from there as the Chair of Continuing Education, Health Sciences and Human Services in 2003, where she then began her new career path in caring for Seniors and was the Director of Nursing at St. Elizabeth’s Villa, until the age of 74. Kate’s accomplishments are many within the community college and international education realm and senior’s care. She proudly was very active within the Mohawk College Retirees Association, and had weekly zoom calls with her beloved classmates, and participated in several small groups within the church where she made many dear friends.
She was an incredibly strong woman of faith and served as Sunday School teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, Youth Leader and most recently on the Board of Elders at Paramount Drive Alliance Church, formally Delta Tabernacle. Kate’s unshakable, strong love and faithfulness of Jesus Christ is one that she loved to share and even in her remaining days and weeks was always praying for her family and friends who didn’t have a personal relationship with Jesus to seek Him.
Kate’s life, her hard work ethic, her full happy laugh, her stubborn, yet caring manner will never be duplicated. Kate’s life has been dedicated to her faith, but also to her family. Kate loved her family immensely, her children, grandchildren, brothers in law, Jim and Don, nephew and niece and dear friends so very much. Kate’s passion for sports (especially during Byron and Stuart’s many sporting events) will never be forgotten. She was competitive, loyal, and was the strongest, most determined woman her children ever had the privilege of knowing and loving.
We will never be the same without you Mom, and many people you leave behind will forever miss you, we are the better for having you in our lives, but we are relieved that your suffering on this earth is over and you are now reunited with so many loved ones in heaven.
