Kateryna "Kasha" Gelzynsky

Born in Wietlin, Poland on June 24, 1925; came to Canada in 1961; passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 19, 2015 with her children by her side. Predeceased by her husband Stefan in 1978 when she selflessly raised three teenage children on her own. Predeceased also by her siblings Dmytro in Ukraine, Ivan in Poland, and Mychaylo in Hamilton, Ontario. Survived by siblings Hania and Stefan. Deeply missed by her children Irene (Ralph) grandsons Maverick and Sawyer; Steve (Kim) grandchildren Cassandra and Ryan; and Anna (Robert) granddaughters Kate, Abbie and Emma. Will be sadly missed by family and friends in Ontario, Western Canada, in Poland and Ukraine. A beloved mother and grandmother who embraced hard work, was deeply faithful, and commited to her children and grandchildren. Kateryna is a founding member of Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church and a longtime member of CYM Ukrainian Youth Organization. Baba has been a great influence in our lives and her generous spirit and infinite wisdom is engrained in our hearts and minds. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and technicians at Oshawa Lakeridge Health Hospital for the excellent and dignified care Kateryna received, especially to nurses Patti, Kari and Kim who were compassionate and gentle during a difficult time. Resting at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East (at Kenilworth) on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with Panachyda at 8 p.m. Funeral Service at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Church, 15 St. Olga Street, Hamilton, on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 10 a.m. Kateryna will be laid to rest by her husband's side at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Burlington, Ontario.
