Ken passed quietly at home with family nearby. Born May 20th, 1941 in Hamilton to James and Lillian Garvie. He spent his early years living in Westdale and graduated from Westdale Secondary School.
In August 1963, he married Irene (nee Convey) and their son Brian was born in 1967. They moved to the mountain in 1970 and remain in THEIR house to this day. Ken and Irene were proud to welcome Kristine Geske into their family when she and Brian got married in 1996.
Ken worked at Stelco in the Tin Mill for 35 years and retired in 1998 when his granddaughter Laura was born. His grandson Ben was born in 2001.
He was a devoted grandfather, attending sports games, school activities and special moments throughout their lives. In his spare time, he was an amateur machinist and handyman, often found working in his garage on various projects. He built several pieces of furniture for his family, loved garage sales, and always found creative ways of repairing broken things.
In the last five years, he saw both his grandchildren graduate from university and successfully launch their careers. He welcomed James into the family when he and Laura were married in June 2025 and they visited Canada.
Ken is survived by his son Brian and daughter-in-law-Kristine, his grandchildren Laura (James) and Benjamin, sister Norma (Terry) and his nieces Michelle (Rex) and Catherine (Joe).
He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and especially his neighbours.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 30th from 5 - 8 PM at the Crestmont Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton.
