He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Arlene, and their three children: Kerri (Joe), Krista (Lars), and Scott (Naomi). He will be deeply missed by his beloved grandchildren Camryn, Joey, and Emmett.
Ken met Arlene in 1966 and spent the past 60 years devoted to her. They enjoyed their teen years together with family and at dances with their best pals Anne and Tom. Ken loved car shows, cards, and cruising around with Arlene in their blue Hornet. As a dad, Ken took his family on adventures: hiking, skating, and road tripping down South. Ken could pack the Aerostar with an efficiency and precision only seen on German gameshows.
He proudly worked as a rigger at Dofasco for 30 years. In retirement, Ken and Arlene traveled around the world. His favourite spot: Hawaii.
At Macassa Lodge, Ken was known for his big smile, stellar Bingo skills, and enthusiastic singing of ‘Sweet Caroline’ at music night. Special thanks to the entire Macassa staff—PSWs, nurses, and rec team—for treating Ken and the rest of our family with dignity, care, and love.
An open-house Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, August 9, 2026 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at F.H. Sherman Rec Centre (388 First Rd. E.) in Stoney Creek. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society. Online condolences can be made at www.markeydermody.com
