Leola Margaret Batt

February 9, 1915 - November 4, 2012 In her 98th year. It is with great sadness that the family of Leola Batt, (Great-Gramma) announces her peaceful passing in the Miramichi Hospital in New Brunswick. She is predeceased by her loving soul mate and husband, Jack of 56 years, her siblings Ira, Chrissie and Howard and her son John. Leola is survived by her daughter Marilyn (Eugene), daughter -in-law Maria, grandchildren Michelle (Perry), Stefan (Regan), Gigi, (Cory) and the apples of her eyes, her great-grandchildren, Taylor, Johl, Justin, Marisa, Celeste, Avery and Zackery. Leola will also be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews, friends in Ontario and New Brunswick, caregiver Diane, her pal Pablo and many extended families who called her Gramma from CAS and CCAS. Leola was a familiar face in Hamilton. She and Jack volunteered at the Cathedral Girls bingo on Friday nights for over 20 years. She was also one of the "chaperone moms" for the Cathedral Girls Band in the 1960's and worked for over 25 years in the ski rental shop at Chedoke Golf Course. Great-Gramma was an inspiration to everyone, with her endless energy at her age and eagerness to experience whatever came her way, especially if it was with her great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King St. East (at Kenilworth) on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated by her nephew, Reverend Robert Bulbrook, on Monday, November 12th at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church, 475 Mary St., Hamilton, with a procession and interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we would ask you to share in Leola's passion for reading, which was her way of educating herself and exploring new adventures. Please donate your favourite children's book to your local library or school in memory of her. As Dr. Seuss said, "The more that you read, the more things you will know.
