EUOLOGY FOR LUISITA DORIA
Good morning everyone, I thank you all for taking the time to come join us to celebrate the life of Luisita Doria. Known as Sitang, Tessie, Auntie Tessie, Lola Tessie or fondly called Lola Bokya by myself and my kids.
Auntie was an amazing woman. Truly a force to be reckoned with. She was a strong willed individual whose kindness, compassion and love knew no bounds. Auntie was extremely generous in all aspects of her life. Her commitment to her family here and globally was unconditional.
I say with utmost respect and honesty, that I have been so blessed to have her be such a large part of my life. Auntie was the half of a whole heart in joint with our mother Isabelita that guided and raised us to be the people we present to you today.
Auntie grew up from humble beginnings, powered her way through life in Hulong Duhat Malabon as one of 8 children born to Lola Idad and Lolo Victor. Being of Japanese and Filipino descent, Auntie had always been the fearless protector of all her siblings especially coveting the self-appointed role of “guard” to our mother Isabelita, her precious twin. Though Auntie and her late spouse Herminio Doria did not have any children, they in essence were parents to the many within the Naval family and godparents to children of close friends both here and in the Philippines.
Auntie generously took care of our family, its past, present and future Naval generations. She instilled within us a commitment of love and loyalty to family.
Auntie was a graduate of MCU in the Philippines with a degree of Nursing in 1965. In 1966, she courageously on her own embarked on a career journey across the world to Canada, this paved the pathway and enhanced the lives of many. Auntie bore that responsibility proudly and cherished every moment and experience that she had forged here in Canada. Auntie was a knowledgeable Registered Nurse that started her career with the Hamilton Civic Hospital on November 30 ‘66 to June 28 ‘68. From there, she branched out to Alberta, worked the remaining year of 1968 until the midyear of 1970. Auntie then returned to work for the Hamilton Civic Hospital from July 20, 1970 until September 28 1973. From this point her adventurous nature brought her to work over in Portland Oregon the fall of ‘73 until the fall of ‘74. Auntie then decided to settle and stay with the Hamilton Civic Hospitals – “Henderson Hospital” on October 28 1974. I like to think that she came back to stay for me, even though It was really because of her twin, my mother and her brother, Tito Lino who were residing in Hamilton at that time. During this time, Auntie also worked for a long term care facility known as St Olga’s Life care centre. Auntie finally retired from the Henderson Hospital in 1996 but continued working alongside my mother, for a few years with myself and for a term with Ate Winnie at St Olga’s until her retirement from there in 2012.
I had always found it extraordinary how closely knit that invisible thread is that binds family together, especially twin siblings. Now today, that invisible thread no longer will connect us to a physical entity, it will however, tether us to a beautiful a soul for all of eternity.
Thank you everyone for your time, for the respect and love you have all shown to Auntie and our family during this difficult time.
To Auntie, who inspired me to choose a path that imitated hers, who encouraged me to be the person that I am today and who influenced me to move forward with compassion and care for all.
Thank you Auntie. I love you and will always hold you close to my heart. I promise you, all that you have shown us, taught us and asked of us, will be an honor for me to carry forward from this day on.
