Margarita Merca Mina

Margarita Merca Mina, 100, wife of the late Felipe Mina, passed away Wednesday June 9, 2021 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born February 27, 1921 in Villasis, Pangasinan, Philippines, daughter of the late Gregorio Merca and Aquilina Marquez Bascos. In July 1945, she married Felipe and settled in Villasis to raise their 11 children. A devoted wife and doting mother, she managed the family variety store located at the front of their ancestral home. June 1987, she and her husband immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario where she remained an active member of the United Filipino Seniors Association of Hamilton and in faithful fellowship with the Jesus Is Alive Community. She was steadfast in her Christian faith, had a passion for gardening, and enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune.
She is survived by her children Jesus (Violeta), Maria Aida Santiago (Angel), daughter-in-law Rebecca, Felipe II (Josefa), Pedro (Josie), Manuel (Catalina), Alicia Osian (Eddie), all of whom reside in the Philippines, and daughters Maria Fe Barrientos (Franklin Sr), Maria Dulce Mina (Gary), Paulina Capulong (Eduardo) and Norie Rebamontan (Rafael), all of whom reside in Hamilton, Ontario. She is also survived by 50 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren, with extended family from Canada, the Philippines and around the world. She was predeceased by her son, Romeo Mina in January of this year.
Due to COVID-19, all events are restricted to a specified number of attendees. Please RSVP in advance for visitation by calling 905-387-2111. Visitors are required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing. Visitation at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Avenue East, on Tuesday from 3-8 pm. A private Mass followed by interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations in Margarita’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada.
