June 13, 1927 to July 27, 2017.
Marion passed away in her 91st year, surrounded by her family, on July 27, 2017. Predeceased by her brothers Francis (Frank) and Walter, survived by her brothers David and John. She will also be missed by her children, Catharine, James (Tobe), John and David (Tracy), her seven grandchildren (in order of appearance, Malcolm, Kathleen, William, Roger, Heather, Timothy and Devin), four great-grandchildren (Sabrina, Chantal-Elise, Tiarnán and Fionnbharr) and many nieces and nephews. Family was important to her; she loved us all very much.
Raised in St. Catharines, Ontario, Marion graduated from the Toronto Western Hospital School of Nursing, class of 1949. Marion worked as a nurse there and in Sarnia before stopping paid work to raise her family. In 1970, she returned to nursing and eventually to Toronto Western. There she gained experience working with kidney transplant patients, and as a result was part of the team caring for the first successful heart transplant patient at Toronto Western.
After retiring, Marion volunteered with the FISH clinic, a Lions Club sponsored mobile health unit bringing eye and dental care to communities in rural Jamaica. After her return to Canada, Marion volunteered with IICPH, promoting environmental health and supporting the late Sister Rosalie Bertell’s work.
A special thank you to all the staff at Emmanuel House Hospice for their care and compassion.
