In 1971, William Markey purchased two long established funeral homes in Hamilton, the P.X. Dermody Funeral Homes from William Dermody. The locations of the funeral homes were at 7 East Avenue South and 1919 King Street East. Upon the death of William Markey, his wife Mary and son Chris continued the operation of the funeral homes. It became apparent that to serve the number of families that had called on us, either the facilities would have to be expanded or a new one would have to be built. Therefore due to the small buildings and limited parking, it was decided that the only avenue would be to build a new funeral home. In 1987, the new Rosedale Chapel was completed and opened. To this date it is the only funeral home in Hamilton Wentworth that was built for the specific purpose of being a funeral home. We have created a warm, friendly appearance to our funeral home, both inside and out, so that the many families that we serve will feel as comfortable as if they were in their own home. The facilities are now completely handicap accessible. There is also a children's play area off the coffee lounge. In 1994 Markey Dermody Funeral Home joined Service Corporation International Canada. A Canadian firm with many resources that will enable our staff to fully concentrate on what we do best, being attentive to our families in offering quality caring service.
