It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Mary Popek (Machocki) in her hundred and first year. Beloved wife of the late John Popek. Predeceased by her father Bartholomew Machocki, mother Balbina Machocki (Jaros), brothers Bartholomew (Jr) and Michael Machocki. Survived by daughter Sharon (Terry Middlemiss), and sons Peter (Linda), Bob (Kim), Paul (Sandy). Mary had nine grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren whom she loved.
Mary was born in Lisle, Ontario on June 4, 1925. Following the death of her father in 1929, the family moved numerous times to Toronto ending up in Hamilton. To make ends meet, her mother had to take in borders and would cook for them. After high school, Mary worked for Kraft Containers, the Bank of Montreal, Robinsons and Hudsons Bay. After Mary and John married, she made a home with her father-in-law Peter, brothers-in-law Kazmir and Edward living with them. She made the most amazing pierogi, cabbage rolls and apple pies. She learned to drive later in life and enjoyed her independence. She made many hand crafts like knitting, crochet, decoupage, and cross stitch. She enjoyed working in the computer department at Mohawk College following graduation at 82 and travelled to many places in England, Poland and Europe. She will be missed by her family and friends. Rest In Peace and may perpetual light shine upon you. “Where did you come from?”
