It is with heartbreaking sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lovrić on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at Hanover Hospital at the age of 78. Beloved mother of John (Kimberly), Zora Crowder (Tim), and Lydia (Marc). Cherished Grandma of Aidan, Evan, Delaney, Creighan, Brenner, Ethan, and Ella-Marie. Dear sister of Ivica Bratanić. Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Jozo Lovrić; her parents, Marija (Jerković) and Jure Bratanić; her brother, Ilko; and her sister, Iva.
Mary had an extraordinary gift for making everyone feel loved. Known for her generous heart, quick wit, infectious sense of fun, and unwavering zest for life, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend to all. A true water baby, Mary was always the first one into any lake, river, or pool, coaxing others to join. A former teacher in Croatia, she made sure all seven of her grandkids mastered their multiplication tables long before they learned them in school. During her years at the West Grey Police Service, she became affectionately known as "Mother Mary," a reflection of the warmth, care, and kindness she extended to everyone she met. She cherished her close-knit family, her many friendships, and her euchre buddies. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love that touched everyone who knew her. Mary will be deeply missed by many relatives and friends in Canada and Croatia.
Visitation will be held at MARKEY-DERMODY FUNERAL HOME, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton, on Wednesday, August 26, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., with Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Cross Croatian Church, 1883 King Street East, Hamilton, on Thursday, August 27, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Angels Cemetery and luncheon reception. A livestream of the service can be found below in the "Services" section by clicking "Join Livestream".
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Make-A-Wish Foundation would be appreciated in honour of Mary's love for creating joy and special memories for children.
May her zest for life and deep love of family live on in all our hearts. And may those who loved her think of her warmly whenever they gather by the water's edge or play euchre, remembering the joy she brought to every moment.
