It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ofelia Andrea Valente on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Idlewyld Manor in Hamilton, at the age of 87, just a few weeks after celebrating her birthday.
Ofelia was the beloved partner and best friend of Tom Pirocchi. She was the devoted daughter of the late Luis and Aquilina Valente and the loving sister of the late Leticia Sahr (late Udo Sahr). She was a loving aunt and great aunt to Sara Sahr, Ruth (Joseph Ferraro), Judith (Douglas VanEs), Adam, Sofia, Christina, Andy, and Claire. She will be forever remembered by her extended family, many dear friends, and neighbours in both Canada and the Philippines.
Ofelia dedicated more than 40 years of her life to teaching, a career she embraced with passion, kindness, and unwavering commitment. Even after retiring, she continued to substitute teach for another five years because of her love for education and her students. She took immense pride in the many lives she touched and the lasting difference she made in the classroom.
To care for her aging parents and ensure they always had the support they needed, Ofelia moved to Hamilton. It was there that fate intervened. A neighbour who enjoyed golfing introduced her to the game, and Tom happily took her to the driving range a few times. While golf may not have become her greatest talent, it marked the beginning of a beautiful love story. Together, Ofelia and Tom shared countless happy years filled with walks and hikes on local trails, memorable travels, laughter, companionship, and unwavering support for one another. They found in each other a true partner and best friend.
Ofelia had a remarkable eye for photography and a natural grace in front of the camera as well. Her radiant smile could light up any room. She loved to dance, especially line dancing, and Elvis Presley was always her favourite. She was known for her cheerful spirit, honest nature, and generous heart. Although she could be outspoken, it was always with kindness and the best of intentions. Her compassion, warmth, and heart of gold will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring and compassionate staff at The Village of Wentworth Heights Retirement Home and Idlewyld Manor for the exceptional care and kindness shown to Ofelia.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to visit at Cresmount Funeral Home, Fennell Chapel, 322 Fennell Avenue East, Hamilton, on Friday, August 21, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until the Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, Garner Road West, Ancaster.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
