Peter was predeceased by his Mama and Papa (Romana and Gino) and siblings Lena, Ida and Leo. Peter was simply the BEST Husband to Carolyn and an AMAZING Dad to Paul, Josh and Adam and his wife Jenny. Father to Mark and Melanie. One of Peter’s best roles was as Nonno to his amazing grandchildren Preston Dayler and Alaiya, Isla and Cooper Berti. Although he will be incredibly missed, his stories and lessons will guide them through their lives.
Peter was a successful business man and owned and operated multiple I.G.A grocery stores in Hamilton, Ancaster and Dunnville. His passion for people and his happy and pleasant demeanor earned him the nickname Mr. I.G.A. If you were ever on James St. South in Hamilton, there is no doubt you would see him waving to his customers and watering the plants out front. Although many people came and went from his stores, he was proud to have Carolyn working beside him every day and enjoyed watching his children develop the skills to enhance their lives and careers. Although our Husband, Father and Nonno has passed, his stories, lessons (of which there were many) will continue to guide his family. Peter was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease in 2009 and through this debilitating disease, he always approached each day with a smile.
To all the staff at St. Peters Residence, there is not a staff member who wasn’t the recipient of a smile and a “heeeyyy” in recognition of them. From the Maintenance Staff, Housekeeping, Administrative, Dietary and Physio Support Workers to the RPN’s and RN’s, he fell in love with all of you. To each staff member on Fir Terrace and from the bottom of our hearts thank you for caring for our Dad and our Mom during the past two years. WE LOVE YOU and you are very special people who work endlessly and tirelessly to make the final journey peaceful and comfortable.
