Peter will be remembered by family and friends as a generous, kind, and gentle bachelor. He is survived by brothers James and John, nephews, Benjamin, Matthew, Andrew and nieces Mary and Nancy Unsworth; and predeceased by his father William Alexander Unsworth and mother Rosalie Elizabeth Potter Unsworth. Peter will be deeply missed by his brothers James and John, as well as by all who knew and loved him.
As the eldest sibling, Peter was both protector and guide to his younger brothers throughout their childhood. He attended Earl Kitchener, Ryerson, Westdale High and Hillfield College before serving in the Navy aboard HMCS St. Laurent. Much of Peter’s adult life was spent in British Columbia, where he worked for Canadian Pacific Rail. His career took him on countless adventures through small towns scattered across the province’s magnificent wilderness. A lifelong reader, Peter devoured books from an early age and was known as the child, who read by flashlight, under the covers late into the night. His other great passion was the study of human nature in all its variety. A gifted conversationalist, he was renowned for his sardonic repartee. He welcomed conversations with people from all walks of life, and although a talented writer, he chose to live his stories, rather than put them to paper. Many have said that Pete would give you the shirt off his back. Peter will be remembered with love and admiration, and he will be dearly missed. He was a real character and a fine fellow. A celebration of Life in honour of Peter will be arranged in the near future. Details will be shared once finalized.
