Ronald James Hickey

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Hickey in his 86th year at the Juravinski Hospital on February 10th. Ron was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen in August of 2017. He leaves behind his loving and devoted sons Dan (Mary) and David (Sheian). He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Jay (Melissa), Lisa (Sheena), Olivia and his great-grandchildren Ava and James. Ron was the dear brother of Ed (Norah) and is predeceased by his siblings Roy (Anna), Audrey (Bert), Frank (Marney), Joe (Mary), Jack (Nellie), Tom (Elisabeth) and Ben (Christine). Ron had a very rewarding and successful working life which included Firestone, Stoney Creek Dairy and The Mountain Bingo Centre. He was able to take early retirement and truly enjoyed his cottage for many years with family and friends. He was particularly close to his pets and took great joy in being with D.D., Mollie, Allah, Tash and Corinna. Ron was passionate about sports, especially his horses and The Hamilton Tiger Cats, which were a big part of his life for many years. Ron was a true gentleman in every sense of the word and possessed a kind, humble and generous spirit which he lovingly shared with all his family and friends. Ron will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts and cherished memories. Cremation has taken place and a funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 16, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church (Our Lady of Lourdes Church) 416 Mohawk Road East in Hamilton followed by a celebration of life in the church basement. For those who wish, donations in Ron's memory may be made to the Parkinson's Society.
