Roy Spong

Peacefully passed away at the Henderson Hospital on Friday, July 24, 2009 at the age of 82. Beloved husband of Winifred (Barbé), married for almost 60 years. Loving father of David and his wife Karen, Ken and his wife Brenda Davis, Kathy and her husband Stan Otaguro. Dear grandpa of Cassandra, Corrine, Kristin, Jim, Melissa, Alex, Jacqueline and Erica. Great-grandfather of Ashley Lynn, Christopher, Nicholas, Aidan and Cheyanne. Brother of Joyce and Art Read (predeceased), Frank and Doris, Donald and Florence (both predeceased), Gordon and Eileen, Iris and Leon Robinson (predeceased), Denis and Gay. Brother-in-law of Doris Davis and Ken Carmichael. Roy was retired from Homer & Wilson Ltd, after 48 years, as a tool and die maker. A talented handyman, he enjoyed the cottage, photography, woodworking, gardening, as well as cooking in his retirement years. He’ll always be remembered for his famous turkey stuffing and chip dip, (they were always in demand). Long time elder and retired treasurer and Clerk of Session at St. John & St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. We are grateful to the staff of 4E at the Henderson Hospital for their care, with a special thank you to an angel of a nurse, Irene. Family and friends may visit at the MARLATT FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 615 Main Street East (east of Sanford) on Tuesday, July 28 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held in the Marlatt Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 11 am. Cremation to follow.
