It is with both heavy hearts and a deep sense of peace, that we share the passing of Sophie on August 8, 2026. Carrying a spirit that beautifully echoed her father’s, she left this world at age 72, exactly as she lived it—entirely on her own terms.
Sophie shared a beautiful marriage full of love and partnership with her husband Bruce Turnbull. She was a fiercely proud mother to Elizabeth (Mike), Jessica (Nieka) and Ryan (Rachel) and a doting Yiayia to Rhiannon, Caleb, Vivian, and Everett.
Born in Hamilton on June 1, 1954, to the late Nikolaus and Marina Perioris; beloved sister to Kleo (Peter), Anna (Peter), Christina (Bob), Stratus (Ellie), and Mersina (Alan). Sophie will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
Known for her incredible cooking, infectious laugh and passion for life, Sophie made everyone who crossed her threshold feel like family. Her kindness, resilience, & vibrancy will live forever in our hearts.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all those who were involved in Sophie’s care as she battled glioblastoma over the past 8 months. Special appreciation is extended to Dr. Omar and the team at Hamilton General Hospital; Dr. Beers, Dr. Kalindindi and the team at the Juravinski Cancer Centre and, most recently, the doctors and staff at Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice. Your humour, compassion and excellent care provided comfort and support to the entire family during this journey.
Visitation will take place on Monday, August 17th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Cresmount Funeral Home, 322 Fennell Ave East, Hamilton. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 18,2026 , at 11:00am, at Panagia Greek Orthodox Church, 233 East 15th St., Hamilton. Interment at Woodland Cemetery, 700 Spring Gardens Road, Burlington, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sophie’s memory may be made to Dr. Bob Kemp Hospice or Keaton’s House — Paul Paletta Children’s Hospice in her name.
