Ursula Pirie

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mum, peacefully in her sleep, at the Village of Wentworth Heights Nursing Home. She was the cherished wife of Walter (pre-deceased husband) who passed away in 1988. She was the loving mother of Brian (Janet) Pirie and Irene (Allan) McLean. She was an adoring Grandmother to Valerie (Arthur) Raynor, David (Haley) Pirie, Gordon (Lauren) McLean, Christina (Kyle) Lang, Andrew McLean (Natalie) and Allan McLean Jr. She was a loving Great-Grandmother to Emmet, Kaelem, Dylynne, Kieran, Connor, Madysen, Samantha and Irelyn. Ursula is also survived by her youngest sister, Mary and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in both Canada and Scotland. Ursula the Matriarch, as she was affectionately known, was cherished by her entire family, and a host of friends in the Hamilton community. The family immigrated to Canada in 1966, from Aberdeen, Scotland and in the years to come, she embraced the opportunity of becoming a proud Canadian. After retiring as an employee of both Robinson’s and the Bay Department Stores, Mum became very active in volunteering her services at the Sackville Hill Seniors’ Centre in organizing and participating in bus trips to destinations, near and far. Ursula was a keen and avid sequence/ballroom dancer and for many years she and Walter loved to glide along the dance floor at the Hamilton Tartan Social Club. She was also a very dedicated and robust volunteer for the Canadian Cancer Society. Our thanks are extended to the administration and staff of the Village of Wentworth Heights Nursing Home, for their diligent and compassionate care of our Mother. Donations made in Ursula’s memory to the Alzheimer Society would be sincerely appreciated by the family. Her family will receive friends at theCRESMOUNT FUNERAL HOME, 322 Fennell Ave. E. on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday August 8th 2012 at 11 a.m. in the chapel.
