He leaves behind his wife of 52 years, Dorothy, his children Cheryl (Tim), Juanita (Lance) and John (Cheryl Marie), his grandchildren Braden (Ashley), Emily, Camille, Hunter, Emmett, and Mason as well as his 4 great-grandchildren and his sister Carol Elfner and her two daughters Pauline (Bryan) and Julia (Dan).
Walter dedicated his life to the service of God, volunteering with numerous organizations, most notably his 25+ years at the Hamilton Detention Center with Fishers of Men and Prison Fellowship, Galcom International, Gideons International and Crossroads. He loved to travel and would always pull out a map to show you where he has been and where he would like to go. He will be remembered as a man passionate about his family, faith, and community. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Mission Services of Hamilton.
His family will receive friends for visitation at West Highland Baptist Church, 1605 Garth St., Hamilton on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-9pm.

In accordance with the regulations of the Bereavement Authority of Ontario due to COVID-19, all events are restricted to a specified number of attendees. Please RSVP in advance by calling Cresmount Funeral Home at 905-387-2111. All visitors are asked to remain in their vehicles until their allotted time period. Visitors are also required to wear a face covering and practice social distancing.
A private family service will be held at West Highland Church on Thursday at 11am. Friends will be able to join via Live Stream. Further information will be provided soon.
Private interment will follow.
