He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Florence Reaume (2015); his parents, Wilfred and Eleanor Reaume; and his stepfather, Arthur Wetton. He was the last surviving and longest-lived of 11 children. Left to celebrate his life are his children Gene (late Deb), Marc (Debbie), Joe (Tracey), Jim (Sue), Theresa (Bob Lannigan), and Patrick (Angie); 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Born in Hamilton in 1929, Walter grew up in the North End and attended Cathedral Boys’ School. A man of deep faith, he remained devoted to it throughout his life. After spending time in the seminary, he met and married his lifelong love, Florence Meyer. Together, they raised six children and shared over 65 years of marriage before Florence’s passing in 2015. Walter worked at Dofasco for 43 years before “retiring early” in 1991. As Melt Shop Crane Foreman, he was known for being firm but fair and always a gentleman. He enjoyed 35 years of retirement and remained in the family home until this past June.
The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the many health professionals and caregivers who provided support over the past few months, including those at the Village of Wentworth Heights, St. Joseph’s Hospital, Juravinski Hospital, West Lincoln Hospital, and Ontario Health at Home.
