Lieber Onkel Willi, 
 
es ist schon erstaunlich, dass alle meine Onkels und Tanten in Canada über 90 Jahre alt werden. Du weißt ja, Papa, Onkel Rudolf, Onkel Ewald, Onkel Hugo sind alle früher gestorben. Canada scheint eine gute Auswirkung zu haben.  
Wie ich höre, geht es dir nicht mehr so gut, das ist beim Krebs leider so.  
Ich möchte dir nur sagen, dass ich jede Begegnung mit dir immer genossen habe. Seit den 60er Jahren, wo du als der Onkel aus Canada mit einem gemieteten Auto für uns schon etwas ganz Besonderes warst. Du warst immer fröhlich und guter Dinge, immer zu lachen aufgelegt.  
Der Besuch 1972 mit Armin bei dir und auch den anderen war für uns etwas Wunderbares. So gerne erinnere ich mich daran. Es war eine tolle Zeit!  
Aber auch die Besuche danach, egal ob hier in Deutschland oder in Canada (1978) und jetzt 2016 und 2018 habe ich, haben wir genossen. 
Ich möchte dir für alles von Herzen danken!! 
 
Ich hoffe, dass du in dieser Zeit gut betreut wirst und du jetzt schon mit einem dankbaren Blick zurück auf dein Leben blicken kannst. Auf jeden Fall habe ich dich immer so positiv in Erinnerung. 
 
Alles Gute für dich! Ich drücke dich ganz doll!

So sad to hear of Onkel Willi‘s passing! Glad we were able to visit him in June.
Onkel Willi and Tante Meta always made a point of visiting us on their visits to Germany! It sure brought a feeling of „Home“ to me.   When we were young, they never  missed a Birthday or special occasion and we looked forward  to their visits! 
I sure will miss our regular „catch up“ calls!
Thanks to all the family who were there to help in the last years!

Dear Uncle Willi,
I fondly remember the times spent with you and Aunt Meta!
When we were small children, your visits to Germany from Canada were always the highlight for us. Your gifts—Life Savers or that unique chewing gum—were amazing. I even remember a huge inflatable banana! Later, in the 70s and 80s, I had the chance to visit you in Hamilton twice. It was like a journey to another world—thanks, of course, to your extraordinary hospitality. You always took so much time for us and visited all the sights—Niagara Falls, Toronto...—with us! You visited Germany for as long as you were able; the last time was when my father—your brother Ewald—passed away. You and Aunt Meta stayed with us in Padenstedt then, and we shared some lovely moments together. We planted a rhododendron from you in our garden; it is still there today and will always remind me of you. Later on, we spoke by phone now and then and always had pleasant conversations. Now you have sadly left us—you were definitely my favorite uncle—and I hope you and Aunt Meta are together again.

Onkel Willi werde ich immer als einen herzensguten, an der Familie interessierten, empathischen Menschen in Erinnerung behalten.
Ich denke gerne an seine Besuche in Celle zurück. Es war immer eine besondere schöne Zeit wenn Onkel Willi und Tante Meta aus dem entfernten Canada kamen.
Einen besonderen Trost und Zuneigung spendete er mir, als er zur Beerdigung meines Vaters anreiste.
Noch im hohen Alter war es Onkel Willi wichtig telefonisch den Kontakt zu Nichten und Neffen zu halten. Dann erzählte er von seinem Tagesablauf, den leckeren Gerichten die Brigitte für ihn zubereitet hatte, Besuchen im Schwimmbad und vieles von Früher.
Er überraschte sogar an Geburtstagen.
Ich werde Onkel Willi sehr vermissen und in liebevoller Erinnerung behalten.
Er hat viele Spuren der Liebe und Fürsorge in unserer Familie hinterlassen.
Danke für alles.

In deep sorrow I remember my great-uncle Willi. I last saw him as a child and would have liked to see him again. I am grateful that I was able to ask him about the earlier times in Germany – he was one of the last living witnesses of that era. In loving memory.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I have known Bill since I was a child. He was the quiet neighbour at the end of the street who always kept to himself, tended a beautiful garden, and devotedly cared for his beloved wife. It was easy to see the deep love they shared throughout their lives.

It brings comfort to know they are now reunited in God’s heavenly kingdom.

Rest in peace, Bill. You will be dearly missed, and your memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew you.

We were deeply saddened to hear of Uncle Willi's passing.

Although we only had the opportunity to see him a few times, he held a very special place in my husband Christian's heart. Despite the great distance between Germany and Canada, their connection remained strong over many years. They spoke regularly on the phone, and Christian always talked about his uncle with great affection and respect.

We had hoped to visit Willi in Canada one more time. Sadly, the pandemic changed those plans, and later life no longer gave us the opportunity. We will always regret that.

Christian has since passed away as well. I am certain that he would have been deeply saddened by the loss of his beloved uncle. It brings me comfort to think that they are together again in our hearts and memories.

Our heartfelt condolences go to all of Willi's family and to the relatives who cared for him so lovingly during his final years.

Rest in peace, dear Uncle Willi. You will always be remembered with love.
