Yaroslava (Gloria) Fedas

With her family’s love around her and with hearts full of gratitude and sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Yaroslava (Gloria) Fedas (nee Skrypka) at Orchard Terrace Long Term Care in Stoney Creek on Sunday, September 20, 2026.

Born August 23, 1924 in Vovchukhy, Lviv, Ukraine, Gloria lived to be 102 years old. “That’s quite an age.”

Gloria immigrated to Canada in 1936 with her family and lived in Red Water, Alberta before moving to Grimsby, Ontario in 1943. She often recalled that springtime in this area, with the flowering fruit trees, reminded her of her beloved homeland.

Gloria had deep spiritual faith and with her family became an active member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Grimsby and the vibrant Ukrainian community. Later, with her husband Eugene, she became a member of St. Nicholas Church in Hamilton. There she joined the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Canada, the St. Nicholas Parish Choir, and volunteered her time extensively.

She was proud of her Ukrainian culture and heritage, and passed on her love of traditions, language, and artistry to her children and grandchildren, for which they are forever grateful.

Gloria loved to embroider, and her handiwork was displayed in her home as well as on the altar of St. Nicholas Church. Gloria embraced her many interests and talents, and excelled at gardening, sewing, baking, and cooking Ukrainian traditional cuisine.

Gloria had a strong and determined character. Her devout faith and resilience carried her through many challenges in life which she embraced with perseverance and positivity.

For 25 years, she worked as a custodian with the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board, carrying out duties she very much enjoyed.

Gloria made the best of every new experience and was always eager to learn something new. She was appreciative of everything she had and made good of every opportunity that came her way.

Gloria is predeceased by her parents Maria and Joseph Skrypka and her husband Eugene (2004). Also predeceased by her siblings Natalia, Teklya, Volodymyr and Roman. She is survived by her brother Slavko (Fran) and sister Hania, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Gloria was a loving and devoted mother to her three daughters Christine (Michael) Wityk, Doreen (Roman) Moroz, and Lesia (Morris) Hucal, and was a wonderful Baba to her grandchildren, Ulanna (Mark), Natalia (Oleksander), Mark (Katie), Andrew (Zoe), Myra (Matthew), Adrian (Kylie) and Kalynna. She showed the biggest smiles and heartfelt laughter whenever meeting with her precious great-grandchildren Mila, Luke, Sophia and Michael.

Resting at Markey-Dermody Funeral Home, 1774 King Street East, Hamilton. Visitation on Sunday, September 27, 2026, from 5-8 p.m with Panakhyda (prayers for the deceased), at 7 p.m. Divine Liturgy and funeral service will take place at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 260 Melvin Avenue, Hamilton on Monday, September 28, 2026, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Queen’s Lawn Cemetery, Grimsby.
