Affectionately known to so many as “Mum", Miss Chin, Miss Wong, Miss Yu, Miss Wing & Sister T. Yvonne peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 8, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on June 2, 1952, in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, to Ceretta Brown and Behiliu Evans, Yvonne embodied the strength, resilience, warmth, and unwavering faith that defined her throughout her life. She built a life rooted in love, service, generosity, and the firm belief that every person deserved to be treated with dignity.
For more than 25 years, Yvonne faithfully served as a Personal Support Worker at VersaCare Long Term Care, where caring for others was never simply a job—it was her calling. Her compassion, patience, and gentle spirit left a lasting impact on countless residents, coworkers, and families.
At the center of her life was her beloved husband, Hubert. Together they shared 32 years of marriage built on love, commitment, faith, and partnership—a testament to the vows they cherished and lived each day.
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memory her children: Sceon Leslie (Fitzroy), Lornette Brown (Ricky), Doran Satchel, Terriann Thompson, and Devisha Frys.
She is also lovingly remembered by her siblings: Yvonne Betton (Ferdinand), Leo (Iris), Arthur (Voan), Iva “Merekeith,” Rodcliff (Gail), Michael (Michelle), Esterlin (Erwin), Lorraine, and Kerry-Ann. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles (Doreen) and Paul.
To her grandchildren, she was never simply Grandma—she was Mum, a title filled with love, wisdom, and comfort. Left to treasure her memory are Tania Brown, Courtney “C.J.” Elliston, Lashawn Elliston, Shaunté Agro (Mark), Alcian Satchel, D’André Leslie, Nathan Elliston, Lysandra “Lilly” Leslie, Nahla Satchel, Giovanni Hogarth, Siivar Satchel, Zayden Brown, Akio Satchel, Maven Munro, and Madelyn Munro.
She was equally adored by her great-grandchildren—Malachi, Carmello, Kasai, and Darius—who lovingly called her “Gong-Gong,” a name that always brought a smile to her face. She will be deeply missed by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family and countless friends.
Yvonne’s home was more than a house; it was a place of refuge. There was always a warm meal, sound advice, and room for one more at her table. She loved deeply, gave generously, and never hesitated to help someone in need. Her kindness extended beyond bloodlines, embracing her adopted daughter, Solomy, her grandson, Zolani, and so many others who became family simply because she loved them.
Education was one of her greatest passions. She believed knowledge was a gift no one could take away and constantly encouraged young people to pursue learning, work hard, and strive for excellence. She was at every graduation. She understood that investing in others was one of life’s greatest callings.
Yvonne found joy in life’s simple blessings. She loved tending to her garden, nurturing every plant with the same patience and care she gave to the people around her. She had a sharp wit, a beautiful sense of humour, stern correction and a quiet strength that carried her through every season of life.
Above all else, Yvonne was a woman of unwavering faith. Jesus Christ was the foundation upon which she built her life. As a devoted and faithful member of Faith Apostolic Church, she faithfully served God and lived out her faith with humility, conviction, and grace. Her life was a living testimony that love is best expressed through service.
Her greatest legacy is not found in what she owned, but in the lives she shaped. Through her prayers, her encouragement, her wisdom, her example, and her unconditional love, she leaves behind generations who are better because they were loved by her.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we rejoice in knowing that she has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
She will forever be loved, forever remembered, and forever missed.
