

Abraham David Kakalia Iaea, 72, of Phoebus, VA passed away on June 1, 2015. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on September 18, 1942, Abraham, a proud native Hawaiian was the eldest child of six to Jack N. Iaea Sr and Edna Kaapana in Ualapue, Molokai. After graduating in 1960 from the Kamehameha Schools for Boys, Abraham joined the US Army and rose to the ranks of Sergeant First Class before retiring in 1988. He received the Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 bronze service stars, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with palm, and other service awards and ribbons.
Survived by brothers Daniel K. Iaea of Molokai and Jack Iaea Jr. of San Diego; sisters Jacqueline Stone of Molokai, Paulette Matz of Germany, Geri Schwab of Honolulu; and Gay Keeling.
He is also survived by his fiancé of 32 years Carol Jean Watkins of Phoebus, adopted son Michael Iaea of San Diego, stepsons Keith Watkins (Crystal Hale) and Michael Wayne Watkins (Karen), 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
Abraham is a longtime member of the VFW #3219 and the American Legion.
Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 2pm, Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 North Armistead Avenue, Hampton.
