Alice J. Sales

Alice Rose Jefferies (Eller) Sales was born in Danville, Virginia, April 22, 1939 to Hester Brown and Aurelia Blankenship Jeffries of Kentuck, Virginia. She was a graduate of Dan River High School, where she was an outstanding basketball player, receiving "All District" distinction. She attended Radford University and taught Physical Education at Gretna High School and Claremont Academy. She was predeceased by her parents, Hester Brown and Aurelia Blankenship Jeffries; her first husband, Donald Hugh Eller and her second husband, Robert (Bob) Luther Sales, Sr.; her brother, Hester (Bud) Jefferies; and her sister, Faye Jeffries Shields. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Donna Eller Freeman and her husband, Timothy Alan Freeman of Poquoson, Virginia; sisters, Barbara Jeffries Bouldin of Roanoke, Virginia and Betty Jeffries Fuller of Chatham, Virginia; granddaughter, Samantha Freeman-Hoegerl and her husband, Adam of Hayes, VA; grandson, Benjamin Alan Freeman of Poquoson, Virginia; two great-grandsons, Caleb Alan Hoegerl and Austin Michael Hoegerl of Hayes, Virginia; along with many loving nieces and nephews. She was a faithful member of The Friends Sunday School Class of Emmaus Baptist Church in Poquoson, Virginia. Alice was a hard worker from her early age. She worked in the tobacco fields of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, taught PE, was a property caretaker, waitress, and was well-known in Poquoson, Virginia as the long-time owner of the Crab Cake House Restaurant and Catering. Her family remembers her fondly for many reasons, but chief among them was that she was an amazing cook, her infectious laugh, and she loved to plant and garden! A Celebration of Life was held at Emmaus Baptist Church, 814 Yorktown Road, Poquoson, Virginia 23662 on Friday, January 8, 2021 at 10:00 am. The service was officiated by Pastor Scott Wade. COVID-19 rules apply: face mask, 6ft rule, stay in family pod, etc. A Celebration of Life was also held at Oak Grove Christian Church, 20581 US-20, Chatham, Virginia 24531 on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at 1:00 pm.
