Alta “Mamie” Marie Pierre Lorminey transitioned and met the Lord on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at home, in Hampton, Va. Although she was a native of Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Mamie lived in the DC/MD/VA Metro area for close to 40 years. Mamie was a member of St. Joseph Church, but was baptized, received her first communion and was confirmed at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. She was educated at Lalue and Elie Du Bois, and taught kindergarten at Jacqueline Turian School in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
Mamie also performed administrative assistant duties at the Centre de Psychiatrie in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. When she left the traditional working world, she oversaw the lives of her beautiful children and family. In her later years, you may have found her in the kitchen cooking, gardening, sitting by the bedroom window--teaching herself English by doing word searches and writing in her notebooks, humming, or praying.
Mamie is preceded in rest by her son, Raynald “Nado” Taylor, grandson, Charles Biela and her husband of 20 years, Raoul Lorminey. She is survived by two adult children, Patricia and Windsor; five grandchildren, Patricia, Venancio, Chidinma, Christian, and Soraya; two great grandchildren, Isaiah and Lillian; two nieces Roselys and Yona; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Home going services will take place on Saturday, November 29, 2014, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church 2150 Cunningham Drive Hampton, VA 23666. Viewing begins at 9 AM, prayerful wake--10 AM, celebration of life mass--10:30, with an entombment ceremony immediately following in Parklawn Memorial Park.
