

Anna was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 22, 1920. She attended Maury High School and then graduated from Mary Washington College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. During WWII, she joined the United States Army, and received her medical training at Johns Hopkins University to become a certified dietician. Captain Anna Lawson was stationed at McClelland Hospital in Temple, Texas. She was also stationed at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, DC, and at Ft. Meade, Virginia. Subsequently, she served in Tachikawa, Japan during the Occupation of Japan. Anna continued her Army career as an Army wife and lovingly supported her family through many different duty assignments.
Anna was proceeded in death by her parents, Anthony and Maria DeNegri and by her husband Col. (Ret, USA) William F. Lawson, Jr. She is survived by her sister Adele DeNegri of Ft. Monroe, Virginia and her sister-in-law Ruth Gunther of Annapolis, Maryland; her children: LTC (Ret, USA) William F. Lawson III and Jody Lawson of Overland Park, Kansas; Barbara and Sutton Bazemore of Surry, Virginia; and CAPT (Ret, USN) Robert A. Lawson and Eileen Lawson of San Diego, California. She leaves behind her grandchildren: Jeff (Greg Dilger) Lawson, Britton Bazemore, Matt (Tricia) Lawson, Kate (Bud) Peppe, and her great-granddaughter Mary Adele Lawson.
Left to cherish her memory is her devoted caregiver, Angela Knight of Hampton, Virginia and her neighbors and friends in Willow Oaks in Hampton and at The Chamberlin. Anna’s family wishes to express their love and gratitude to The Chamberlin staff, residents, friends and caregivers who were always there to share their kindness, support, and love for her.
No visitation or memorial is scheduled at this time. Burial will take place at a future date with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery. Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home of Hampton is handling funeral arrangements.
