

Betty Brown Spreemann, 96, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013. She was born on October 18, 1916 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Alfred Gordon Brown and Maria de la Vega. She was a lifelong resident of Hampton and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Betty was an alumni of Mary Washington University, a member of the Hampton Heritage Society, and granddaughter of the first mayor of Hampton.
Betty was also preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Paul Spreemann, Sr. and sisters, Belita Brown Broskie and Vara Gordon Brown Lyons. She is survived by her son Kenneth P. Spreemann, Jr. (Ernestine); daughters, Gale Spreemann-Gauf (Lothar), Kay Spreemann Campbell (Larry), Jeanette Spreemann (Dean) and Irene Reed (Doug); grandchildren, Crystal N. Reed, David H. Campbell, Ginger Reed King, Travis J. Pittman, and Blixa D. Pardee-Spreemann; great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Meadow and Bella King; several nieces and nephews; and her faithful dog, Henry Brown.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 14, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 512 Buckroe Avenue, Hampton, with Father Daniel Malingumu officiating. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, in Hampton.
