She is preceded in death by her fathers, William Loomis and Joseph Taylor, both of Norfolk, VA, daughter, Maria Saunders of Newport News, and brother, Ron Taylor of Norfolk, VA
Catherine is survived by Tim Lawrence, her husband of 19 years; former husband, Steve Saunders of Portsmouth, VA; Mother, Nancy Taylor of Norfolk, VA; her son, Steven Saunders (Christie) of Sand Springs, OK; sisters Joanne Taylor of Virginia Beach, VA, Lisa Yount (Al) of Virginia Beach, VA, Maria Schaffer (Brian) of Virginia Beach, VA; brother Billy (Bill Bill) Loomis (Trina), of Columbus, OH; and brother-in-law Edward O’Conner (Trena) of Norfolk, VA.
Catherine was born on April 25, 1965 in Jacksonville, NC, to parents Willian and Nancy. She graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk, VA in 1983. Cathy was a family woman and a loving mother. She married Steve Saunders in 1983 and the couple had two children together, Steven and Maria. They lived in various duty stations, including Norfolk, VA and New Orleans. During that time she raised her children and served as the Navy family’s Ombudsman to whatever command Steve was stationed, serving as the liaison between the command and the families, and she was also a certified lifeguard. They separated in 1993, after which she held various positions managing retail operations. She met Tim in 1996, and four years later, in 2000, they married. In 1997 she moved to Newport News and accepted a position as a Travel Agent at McCord Consumer Direct. In 1999 she moved to Carlson Wagonlit where she worked as a government travel coordinator. In 2005 she retired for Health issues, but continued to be deeply involved in community service for the remainder of her life. Cathy enjoyed her family, her pets, and genealogy. Her family and friends will always remember her as a loving and generous person.
A funeral is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on June 6, 2019 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N Armistead Ave, Hampton, VA 23666 with a reception to follow at the funeral home. Rev Wesley Jolly will officiate. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Catherine’s life. The family would like to thank the community for their love and support in this difficult time.
