

Catherine Moorefield Lawson, widow of Robert Benjamin Lawson Sr., went to join her husband Ben, February 26, 2013. Born December 10, 1927 in Hampton, Virginia, Catherine was the daughter of the late Clayton O. and Matilda Hill Moorefield.
She attended Syms-Eaton school in the “Old Pee Dee” section of Hampton, John M. Willis, and finally graduating from the Old Hampton High School.
Catherine was a member of the First Presbyterian Church on Armistead Avenue in Hampton, and helped in the little tots until moving with her daughter and family after her husband’s death in 1990. She was one of the ladies that helped form the Hampton Ladies Fire Auxiliary on Pembroke Avenue. While growing up she worked at her father’s cleaning plant, Peninsula Cleaners. Later she and her family owned and ran Linman Fuel Oil.
Catherine leaves behind a son, Donald Lawson; daughter, Catherine Lynn Lester; sisters, Jacklyn Clair and Johanna Moore; brother, Clayton Q. Moorefield; and stepson, Robert B. Lawson, Jr.; and all their families. She was preceded in death in 2010 by a brother, Verner (Pee Wee) Moorefield whom she cared for dearly.
Catherine had a very close relationship with her granddaughters, Catherine Nicholle “Niki” Allen and her boys, Kavin, Logan, Peyton, and Micah; and Veronica Lawson Ferrell and her son Benjamin.
She will be loved and missed dearly, but has finally found everlasting life and peace.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Services will be held graveside in Parklawn Memorial Park on Friday, March 1, at 11:00 am.
