

Mrs. Crumbly was born on March 28, 1938, in Rosenberg, TX, the fourth daughter of the late Frank and Mary Minnie (Vajdak) Kovar of Beasley, TX. She was preceded in death by her sister Alice Mae and husband Everett Lively; her sister Mary Ann and husband Roy Birkhead; and her sister Margaret Kovar.
Mrs. Crumbly is survived by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Hershell Crumbly, and one son: Andrew and wife Maria of Lanexa, VA. Also surviving her are her grandchildren: Sarah, (Matt Owens) Timmy, (Ciara) and Alejandra, (Ron) and great-granddaughters Mila, Saga, and Nova as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Clara was a member of the Rosenberg (TX) Brethren Church. After she graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School, she moved to Huntsville, TX, to complete her college degree work at Sam Houston State Teachers College. She lived in Austin working as an accountant for 1 year before moving to Rome, GA, where she became the executive secretary to Dr. John Bertrand, president of the Berry Schools. Clara met her husband-to-be, Kenneth, on a blind date and they were married on August 26, 1961, in Rosenberg after Ken completed his graduate work at Emory University in Atlanta.
Clara and Ken moved to Hampton VA in 1961 where she enjoyed singing with the Wythe Presbyterian Church Choir and many other social circles while raising two boys and working in accounting. She served as Treasurer at Wythe for several years. After moving to Williamsburg in 1984, Clara enjoyed her retirement lifestyle and her expanded family of three grandchildren. She became very interested in family history and her Czech heritage.
A graveside service will be held at Parklawn Memorial Park, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA on Friday, January 3, 2025 at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 pm, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, in Williamsburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm Saturday, January 4, 2025 at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church, followed by a reception in Stevenson Hall at the Church.
