Dorothy J. Sharp

She was born to the late Guy and Pauline Ledford, January 24, 1935 in Lawndale, North Carolina. She was the oldest of seven children and was preceded in death by her twin brothers Harold and Carrol Ledford, and sisters Geraldine Mull and Jackie Towery. She was lovingly referred to by her family as the “General”. She was a member and Deacon at Langley Baptist Church of Hampton.

Joann married the late Phillip Hugh Sharp, and as a young military wife was stationed around the country where she made many lifelong friends. To avoid becoming a “golf widow” she learned the game and joined her husband on the “links”. It wasn’t mentioned very much but there is a rumor her handicap was lower than his. JoAnn was predeceased by her loving husband in 2004.

Joann enjoyed a long Civil Service career beginning as a switchboard operator at Langley AFB, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. She retired in 1996 after 35 years of service from TRADOC, DoD, Fort Monroe, VA. as a computer systems analyst. She received many outstanding performance awards during her career.

Above all Joann loved her family. She leaves to cherish her memory a son, Don Sharp (Rose) and two grandsons Nick (Corinne) and Jason, as well as a great-granddaughter Emalie. Two daughters, Patricia Moore, grandson Dr. Lindsey Sharp (Amy), great grandsons Collin, William and Ian.

Pat Gossage (Charlie), grandchildren Charlie Jr.,Zachary, Jenny. Sisters, Janet Cooke (Ronnie) and Patsy Denton (Paul), and numerous nieces and nephews.
