I am sorry to hear of your loss.  Ernie and I sat together for the surveying exam many years ago and next to each other.  For years afterwards when our paths crossed, he would jokingly complain about the noise that my manual computer made  which disturbed his concentration on the problems.  He will be missed.

Ernie gave me a job on a survey crew when I was home from college for a few semesters in 1994.  I got to work everyday with his son Billy, and would talk to Ernie and Barbara after the day was done.  Ernie was a great man, and a caring mentor.  He encouraged me to return to my studies and become a civil engineer.  I remember those days fondly and will always remember Ernie for his kindness.  My thoughts and prayers go to the entire Hawkins family, Ernie will be missed.

I am so glad that Sherry asked me to play in countless best ball tourneys with her Ken and most of all Ernie.  I will always remember his famous tee ball, swinging out of his shoes, like whirling dervish in an attempt to out drive "the girls"!  Together we were competing to win our flight, but within our group "the boys" were always trying to go it alone without "the girls" help! I will always relish Ernie's unforgettable laughter.  He loved to compete but above all he knew how to have fun! Love that guy.

It has been a pleasure to know Ernie, Barbara, Sherry & Billy for so many years through sports, church, community and friendship. I hope you can find comfort in so many good memories. I will miss seeing him on Christmas Eve.

Ernie has always been one of the kindest souls I have known.  I will miss his "larger than life" smile and chuckle.  Some of my favorite golf days involved Ernie, Billy and Sherry.  I am thankful to have known and spent time with him.  I would like to express my most sincere and heartfelt sympathy for Barbara, Sherry, Billy, and their families.

What a sad day.  The community has lost a man who has mentored many people including me.  Mr. Hawkins was like a father to me in my youth.  Without him and his family, I would not be the person I am today.  I will always remember the fun times playing softball with him leading us. Ernie was many things to many people. Ernie exhibited a gentle and kind spirit that only can come from a loving heart. I miss his laughter already. He was a Husband, a Dad,to some a second Dad, a Brother - in -Law, an Uncle, a Boss, a Friend but we shared a silent bond that few ever can. Although years apart we conquered some of the same ground, ate some of the same mud, and shared the same pride. I knew Ernie, Barber, and the family from Churchland HS, as a surveyor, and a neighbor when our family lived in Portsmouth. I always liked and admired Ernie and am very sorry to hear of his passing. Our deepest condolences to the family.
