Gilbert W Blunt

Gilbert Winslow Blunt Sr. 71, of Newport News VA, died Sunday, September 19, 2021, peacefully at home.

Mr. Blunt was born on March 5, 1950, in Chesapeake Virginia to the late Evelyn M. Brown and Walter A. Blunt Jr. of Chesapeake VA. In addition to his parents, his brother Terrance A Blunt and Cousin Jean Skinner also proceed him in death. He retired from the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant and The United States Postal Service as a Garageman. He proudly served as a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Gilbert enjoyed spending time with his family and supporting the local American Legion Post 368. Gilbert’s military service was very important to him and within that he cultivated to work hard and be proud of it, no “I” in team, details matter, practice makes perfect, and people remember your character, he would use those core values to impact his children’s lives and they will deeply treasure those gifts.

Survivors include wife, Doris Blunt of Newport News Virginia, son Gilbert Blunt Jr. of New Jersey, stepchildren Derek Gibbons of Hampton, Troy Gibbons of Hampton, and Season Martins of Newport News who loving referred to him as “Pops”. Several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Friend; Jean Nohle and their pet companions Troy & Ranger; Siblings: brother; Walter R. Blunt (Soledad) of California, brother; Kent E Blunt of California, brother; Forrest O Blunt of South Carolina. Sister; Theresa B Peeples, (Elger) of Chesapeake Virginia; sister Jerilyn M. Brown of Chesapeake, Evelyn M Brown of Chesapeake Virginia, and Juelle L. Jalilian of Chesapeake Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews loving referred as “Uncle Hump”, other relatives and friends that will Cherish his memories forever.

Mr. Blunt will be laid to rest at Albert G Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk Virginia with full military honors. A memorial service honoring Mr. Blunt will be announced at a later time.

Doris, Derrick, Troy and Season, my condolences on the passing of Pops. He was one of a kind. I remember the jokes and a few of our personal talks way back when. I’m glad I took his advise on a few issues. Again sorry for your loss. May he Rest In Peace.

My condolences to the family of Gilbert Blunt.
I am so saddened by the passing of our dear Gilbert. He was just like family to me! I will forever remember his light hearted jokes & making us laugh a lot! I have such fond memories of his joyful spirit. May he rest in the arms of the Angels until we meet around the throne of God! It’s not goodbye my friend Gil, it’s I’ll see you later my friend!

When I met you in 2005, I never imagined you to become such an inspiration to my life but you did. Our relationship grew stronger year after year. My American dad is who you were to me and Angélique.
