Obituary of Helen H Dupere
Helen Horner Dupere, 93, passed away peacefully, Monday, October 16, 2017 at her home in Newport News. She was born in Sandston, Virginia and graduated from Highland Springs High School and Hampton Roads Business College. She worked at Langley Field. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hampton for over 70 years. She was past president of the Women of the Church as well as her Sunday school class, and was a Junior Choir Mother. Helen was an avid golfer and a member of the Ladies Golf Association. She loved to travel, play bingo, and play cards with her weekly group. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Helen was preceded in rest by her husband of 52 years, Johnny; son, Jack; and parents, Maurice and Ruth Horner. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann Shutt and husband, David of Poquoson; her grandson, Jeff Dupere; daughter-in-law, Carolyn D. Kinsey; numerous nieces and nephews; and her extended family, Keith and Susan Sykes, Elizabeth Sykes, and Carlos, Lindsay, and Natalie Pinto. The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides from Intrepid Hospice and her caregivers, Linda and Myrtle. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 20, at First Presbyterian Church, 514 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton. Interment will follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may take the form of contributions to the First Presbyterian Church, 514 S. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, 23669 or the American Cancer Society.
