

Howard served as an Aviation Structural Mechanic in the U.S. Navy during WWII and Korean Conflict receiving decorations for WWII Victory, European Theatre, American Theatre, and Good Conduct. He was retired after 25 years from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company as a Sheet Metal Machinist. He was a member of Restoration Church in Hampton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Dixon Ford, Sr. and Mary Edith Hartman; son, H. Douglas Ford; sisters, Maxine, Alice, Helen; brothers, Kyle and Walter Dixon Ford, Jr. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Doris Marie Ford; daughter, Sharon L. Lester (David); son, Jerry B. Ford (Theresa); four grandchildren, Shannon Ford Woolwine (Woods), Jennifer Ford Berberich (Joe), Jonathan David Lester, Nina Thornton (Anthony); great-grandson, Elwood A. Woolwine, IV; sister, Evelyn Ford Tatum; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Howard’s life will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 18 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Hampton-Veterans Memorial Gardens with honors provided by the U.S. Navy. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service in the funeral home.
