Jim was born on August 8,1946 in Newport News, VA to Robert and Betty Gohr. The family moved around due to his father serving in the Army, and they later returned to Minnesota to farm.
Jim spent more than eight years in the U.S. Navy serving as a boilerman. He and his family lived in Minnesota for several years while he worked in Mountain Lake, but he eventually relocated back to Virginia to with for Newport News Shipbuilding. Following his retirement, he settled in Hampton with special friend, Mary, who preceded him in death.
Jim was also preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, and one sister: Bonnie. He is survived by his three children: Mike, Melinda, and Shauna; his siblings: Jane, Jon, and Cindy; his grandchildren; several uncles, aunts, and close friends.
Jim liked to to go fishing, and more-so loved to ride his Harley Davidson Tri-Glide. He put many miles and wonderful memories on his Harley. He was a very straight-forward, "this is the way I do it" kind of man. Blessed be his memories, and may he be at peace.
On June 9, 2023 at 11:00 AM, Jim will be buried at Albert G. Horton Jr. Veteran's Cemetery in Suffolk, VA, where military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy. He will be escorted to the cemetery with honors by the American Legion Riders Post 25 in Newport News, of which he was a proud member. The Legion Riders were like family to him.
