Her happiest times were those spent with her family and many friends. She was a long time and active member of Hampton Roads Baptist Church, where she volunteered for the church’s numerous tasks. For many years, she enjoyed working in her flower beds and deck planters. She also loved sailing around the Chesapeake Bay, riding dune buggies in the Outer Banks, and camping in her family’s VW camper.
After attending Hampton High School, Janet had a long career at Hofheimer’s where she thrived in selling her favorite accessory, shoes. During this time, her high volume in shoe sales won her and her sister, Ann, a trip to England.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Georgia Clarice Hafer and William Estell Neeley; her son, Ricky Vida; brother, Billy Neeley; and sister, Patty Lee. Left to mourn her memory are her beloved husband of 45 great years, Bill; her son, David and his wife, Lisa; sisters, Ann Nobles and Beverley Hughes; brother, Rodney Neeley; grandson, Eric Vida; great-granddaughters, Jillian and Julie Vida; and many nieces and nephews.
Janet never knew a stranger. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 16, 2019 at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home Chapel.
